Picture Post: Pompeii

Our visit to Pompeii started out rainy and wet. We went with our new friend we met at the hostel named Carson, who was from Colorado & would be a junior in college if he hadn't taken the semester/year off to travel. He told us he's been to Egypt, Poland, Greece.. I don't really remember where else. Pretty crazy, right? I'd never to be able to just drop everything and travel the world living out of a backpack, haha.

This first half hour to an hour that we were there we got some steady rain and cold winds, which was rather unfortunate. Thankfully it cleared up and the sun came out around lunchtime, and then it was pretty much a perfect day! We walked around using the Rick Steves travel guide on Pompeii that Chelsea's parents had sent to her - unfortunately I didn't hear all of the explanations for everything we saw and I'm kind of lazy to look it up on the pdf file, but I did get lots of pictures! :P

Chelsea demonstrating how the raised stones were used as a walkway when the streets were flooded

Some people got creative with their rain protection.. can you see the guy with the box on his head? Haha

We didn't see too many petrified people except for a few that were laid out in this one section with the pottery.. pretty unbelievable how they were kind of preserved by the lava.

This person looks like they may have been praying when the lava from Vesuvius hit.

The sun starting to come out :)

More blue skies! You can see some of the landscape past the clouds now.

The grooves are from how often the carriages traveled down this street.

One of the cute stray dogs wandering around the ruins. Apparently there's an organization that takes care of the dogs, and then there's a way to adopt the dogs from Pompeii if you wanted to, which is pretty neat :)

  1. Oh my gosh! That dog is so cute! I mean, everything you did was really cool, but leave it to me to be stuck on the dog XP
